Ft. Galphin Revolutionary Battle Sign to be Unveiled
An interpretive sign explaining the 1781 Revolutionary War battle at Fort Galphin, fortified home of Indian trader and Patriot George Galphin, will be unveiled on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at the site of the battle located at the Silver Bluff Audubon Center and Sanctuary at Silver Bluff. For the past two years, the Beech Island Historical Society, Director Brandon Heitcamp of the Silver Bluff Audubon Center and archaeologist Tammy Herron have been working together to have this sign in place before the end of 2026 and the 200th anniversary of our country.
Also, all of this would not have been possible without the help of our society member George Hammond and donations from his organization, The Society of Colonial Wars in The State of Georgia, The Society of Colonial Wars in The State of South Carolina, and the Genealogical Society of Colonial Wars.
More information will follow in the Nov.- Dec. BIHS Newsletter.
Dedicated to preserving our nation’s history and Beech Island’s unique heritage, the Beech Island Historical Society connects the past to the present through education, preservation, and community engagement.
